A lifetime driving all over Otago and Southland has given architect Ryan Cardno an attraction to, or admiration of sheds.
“No two are the same,” he says. “Every time I passed one they felt more like landmarks or signposts, each year they would become a little more weathered. There is something very noble about a structure providing such basic shelter while being left out in the elements.”
Recording them as a personal interest, he has now photographed nearly 500 and is slowly uploading them to the website southsheds.com. Take a scroll, it’s all quite mesmerising and provides a beautiful, comforting distraction.
