Wooing Tree Blondie
Apparently Reese Witherspoon developed a taste for it when she was here filming Wrinkle in Time in 2017 and we like her style because Wooing Tree Blondie is our drink of choice when we require something light, crisp and cold in a glass. Often mistaken for a rose, Blondie is a unique blanc de noir (white wine made with pinot noir grapes) that gets its slight blush when the juice is pressed from the grape skins. It’s a dry wine with, as it says on the label, “delightful aromas of stonefruit, pear, orange zest and jasmine with white peach, apricot and a touch of honey on the palate.”
Blondie is deliciously different and it’s just the thing on a hot Central Otago day with a platter or with seafood and Asian dishes.
The 2019 vintage is available at supermarkets and liquor stores for around $28, or online at wooingtree.co.nz. It has been known to sell out so get it while you can.
