Wānaka's Food Truck Village
Back in the 90s, Casey Teat’s family lived in the old house on the property that now plays host to Wānaka’s Food Truck Village and had always thought it would be an asset to the town if it could be opened up for the community to enjoy. The family repurchased the property in 2015 and, as Casey was landscaping the site, he was approached by various food truck owners to see if they would be able to park up and operate. It wasn’t the family’s initial intention, but the food trucks were growing in number and they decided they would create a permanent home for them.
Nestled in the tranquil garden setting beside Bullock Creek you will find something for everyone – savoury or sweet, lunch or dinner. Asian curries and noodles (and exceptionally good roast duck rotis) from Coco Hut; an extensive fried chicken selection from Firebird; Mexican from Burrito Craft; fresh, real-deal sushi from Aki Sushi, Angelo Georgalli’s outstanding souvlakis and tiramisu from Angelo’s Kitchen and waffles and fresh fruit ice cream from The Waffle Press. Toilets, a bar and more trucks will be added as this unique site gets developed. Takeaways are the way to go when the sun is hiding, but it’s the hot spot to dine on a bluebird day.
