LIFE IN A BUBBLE: DJ Matty J
From Matt’s bubble at 10.30am, Wednesday
Coronavirus has silenced the bars and clubs of Wanaka that DJ Matty J usually keeps beating, but you can join him from your bubble for Lockdown Lounge on Saturday nights. Come daytime, Matt McPhee is Director and Business Development Manager at LOGIC1, a Wanaka-based Digital Marketing and Web Development Agency.
Where is your bubble and who is in it?
Our home is in the Mt Iron area of Wanaka and I'm with my wife Fi and my daughter Asha.
What does an average lockdown day look like for you?
Up earlyish. Stretch, workout if up early enough, then lots of cups of tea with working, parenting and house missions in between.
Are you still working?
Yes, I'm working 3-4 hours a day from home, LOGIC1 is a digital-based business so quite straight forward to work online from home, there are a lot more Zoom video meetings now though.
What are you doing for exercise and general wellbeing?
Stretching, pilates, strength workouts a few days a week. Out for walks with Asha and listening to and playing lots of music.
Who's in the kitchen and what’s cooking?
Fi is a properly good cook. She's been rolling classics like lasagne, chickpea curry, lots of Asian stir-fries, salt-roast chicken, hot wings, pulled pork and quite a bit of slow-cooked stuff.
What are you reading/watching/listening to?
Reading: Acid for the Children: Flea
Watching: Narcos Mexico
Listening: The new EP by Flamingo Pier from Auckland, the new Yuksek LP, the stack of tunes I bought on Bandcamp a week ago and tonnes of DJ live-streams, of course.
What is the luxury of time giving you?
More time to think and read.
What are you missing?
Seeing our friends face-to-face and playing music with people.
What are you not missing?
Trying to find a car park in town.
What have you learnt about yourself during this time?
I'm okay with being at home a lot, but I still need to exercise.
What would you like to take with you into post-Corona Central Otago life?
A slower pace of life in general.
Can you give us a playlist?
I don't really do playlists on Spotify as I buy all my music so that I can DJ with it and a lot of the music I play out and listen to isn’t on Spotify but I’ve put a quick Spotify playlist together for you here.
