LIFE IN A BUBBLE: Bridget Legnavsky
As the General Manager of Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone it’s quite possibly Bridget Legnavsky’s car that sees her the most, as she drives from home in Wanaka to the office up at Cardrona (and once it’s open in the winter season, Treble Cone). The car’s getting a well-earned rest during lockdown but not in the garage it seems.
Where is your bubble and who is in it?
I live in Wanaka and my bubble consists of my husband Peter, 14-year old son Gustav and 10-year-old daughter Zora.
What does an average lockdown day look like for you?
Monday to Friday I sit behind a screen, in and out of meetings using Microsoft Teams with the people of Cardrona Treble Cone and Zoom for externals so that we can talk face-to-face as much as possible. Weekends I do housework … and because my time is now so much more efficient I get a few hours exercise per day – which is awesome!
What are you doing for exercise?
I run most days, do some yoga and we’ve even set up a home gym – mainly for Gustav but I join in for some sessions.
Who's in the kitchen and what are they cooking?
I cook the evening meals – I really look forward to that and am finally using my lovely cookbooks that friends have given me. I try to do a completely different taste every day. Us girls are vegetarian and the boys eat very little meat so it lends itself to heaps of adventures with vegetables.
What are you reading/watching/listening to?
I’m reading All the Light We Cannot See (Anthony Doerr)… amazing. Playing family board games in the evenings and not watching TV.
What is the luxury of time giving you?
Time to really think about what is important, what matters and really understanding that. Reflecting on the past - what has gone well, what has not gone so well and learning from that as I frame up what the future and the opportunities of the future hold.
What are you missing?
Seeing my friends … that’s all! And connecting with the staff at Cardrona – I don’t get to see or talk to them all now.
What are you not missing?
Wasting enormous amounts of time driving to meetings.
Are you learning anything about yourself during this time?
I was so busy working every day, always rushed to get things achieved, that I didn’t take the precious time to look around me and plan the future. It’s a bit scary lifting your eyes and looking forwards – but must be done.
What would you like to take with you into post-Corona Central Otago life?
Much more efficient work, focused on the things that really matter and moving quickly through the less important things. Less travel for meetings - so much more can be achieved online.
